ordering our products |
How do I order Javis Davis products?
For crib bedding, you can either place your order online by visiting the online design studio or you can request swatches of your favorite groups and let us guide you through the design process over the phone, by appointment. For big kid's bedding, and other custom accessories, you will need to order swatches and work with us by appointment. For swatch collections and fabrics by the yard, you can place your order online on the fabric collections pages.
Will
someone help me coordinate all the fabrics?
Absolutely. You will be expertly
guided through the whole ordering process. Relax...it's
painless.
Can I buy Javis Davis Bedding in any stores?
No. Although we have had many requests, we have decided to sell our products through this website only. This allows us to give you the best price and widest variety of fabric selections.
I'm an interior designer, will you give me a discount?
Because our prices are already so reasonable, we do not give discounts. Feel free to call Mary Lou to discuss your client's projects. Children's bedding is her specialty and she will gladly recommend Javis Davis fabric collections to coordinate with your design ideas.
Is everything
you have on your website?
Yes and no. Mary Lou is always on the lookout for new fabrics and might have sample yardage of patterns not shown on the website. If there is something specific you're looking for, just ask! We may be able to get it for you.
Can I send
you my own fabrics or trims?
No, we have found that
it upsets the efficiency of
our workroom to use customer's own material.
Efficient workroom = low prices.
Is
it possible to mix and match fabrics from different
collections?
Of course, many fabrics
cross-coordinate. Just request swatches of
all the groups you like
and Mary Lou will help you
pull it all together. It is not possible to mix and match between collections using the online design studio.
Will
you sell me fabrics by the yard?
No problem.
Fabrics are sold in 1 yard increments on the fabric collection pages.
We try to keep everything in stock but might
need a little more time for larger fabric orders. Just give us a call to check availability.
What forms
of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards and
personal checks. A deposit equal to 50% of your
order total is
required to begin work on custom orders designed by appointment. The other half will be
due upon completion. Online orders are processed in full using your Paypal account or a major credit card. |

online design studio |
What is the Online Design Studio?
The Online Design Studio is a place where you can mix and match fabrics from different collections and design your own 3 piece crib set. Look for the blue "design crib set" button next to the available collections.
Do you have an Online Design Studio for big kid's bedding? What about other accessories like pillows and valances?
Right now, the Design Studio is only available for crib bedding. In each studio, you can purchase pre-designed pillows that coordinate with each collection along with extra sheets, crib blankets and fabric by the yard. If you'd like to order big kid's bedding,or other accessories, just give us a call.
What if I only want to get a bumper or skirt and not a 3 piece set?
That's fine! You can still design your pieces in the studio, but call us to place the order for individual items.
I want different pillows than the ones you're showing in the design studio. How do I order those? Will someone help me coordinate them with my crib set?
If you've designed a crib set that you like and want coordinating pillows other than those shown on the design studio page, email us your crib design using the save/share design feature and we'll help you pick out pillows to match!
Why can't I mix and match fabrics from different collections in the design studio?
We thought it would make things a little too confusing if all the fabrics were available to choose from in the design studio. If you want to mix and match between collections, order swatches from each of the groups and give us a call. Mary Lou will help you design a set from your favorite fabrics.
The collection I want isn't in the design studio, can I still get bedding made?
Sure, just order swatches of that group and Mary Lou will work with you by appointment to design bedding.
This Online Design Studio is really cool. How did you come up with it?
Mary Lou has known for years, if the customers could just SEE the bedding, they would love it! Of course with custom bedding, that was impossible- until now. We worked with some very talented web developers at Dayspring Tech in San Francisco and another company called Scene7 who specializes in "rich media content" to create the Online Design Studio. We tried to be really careful with each collection to make sure that pretty much every combination is a winner. We think we've done a good job. |

about crib bedding |
Why don't you show any cribs on your website?
We wanted you to be able to see the whole crib set. Plus, if you already have a crib, and we show a set with a different style or finish than the one you have, it might influence your opinion in some way. If you don't have a crib yet, we are more than happy to recommend a color or style! If you'd like to see how our bedding fits on a crib, click here.
I noticed that the crib bedding is only sold as a 3 piece set in your online design studio. What if I just want the skirt, or just a bumper?
You can still use the online design studio to visualize your custom bedding, just give us a call to place your order for the specific pieces you'd like.
Why is your bumper in 4 pieces and what's up with the ties in the middle?
Over the years, we have determined this bumper construction to be the safest for baby and easiest for you. The baby can't reach the ties, and when they inevitably start trying to climb out, the bumper will slide down the slat unlike other styles that tie on the top and bottom. As you can see in our pictures, Javis Davis bumpers are sturdy enough to stand up on their own. They are about 11" tall and 2" wide. They can be gently machine washed separately or spot cleaned.
How long are your crib skirts and can I request another length?
Our crib skirts are a standard 18" long but you can certainly give us another measurement to use. There is an additional charge for any length other than 18".
How do I measure for a custom length crib skirt?
Measure from just under the mattress to the length you like best. Our standard (and most popular) length is 18”. It gives a nice, generous look, but generally does not touch the floor when the mattress is at the highest setting. If you decide you do want your skirt to touch the floor when the mattress is at the highest setting, remember that the first time you lower the mattress, the skirt will be too long. On most cribs, around 14” will touch the floor when the mattress is at the lowest setting. Also, skirts that “puddle” generally look best in pictures. In real life, they tend to look messy and get in the way.
Tell me about your crib sheets.
Our crib sheets have covered elastic binding and fit standard 5" to 7" mattresses. They are 100% cotton unless otherwise specified and can be machine washed in warm water on gentle cycle and tumbled dry LOW.
How big are your decorative pillows?
Our finished pillow size is about 14" square depending on style. Most pillows have removable shams. Don't forget, pillows are for decoration only! Don't have them in the bed with the baby. |

about kid's bedding |
What is the difference between a duvet cover and a coverlet?
You will need to buy a comforter to go inside the duvet cover. It has a velcro closure on the bottom and is reversible. A coverlet is sort of like a bedspread. It has no lining and goes on top of your sheets and blankets. See "how to measure " for more info.
Do all of your pillow shams come with filler pillows?
All decorative pillows and the Standard Sham with Bows come with a pillow form. The other Standard Shams, King Shams and Euro Shams do NOT come with a pillow. We do offer the forms for Euro Shams at $16 each. I have a daybed / bunk bed. What should I get?
Because there are so many varieties of bunk beds and daybeds out there, we suggest you call us to discuss your particular style of bed. Once we get a good idea of what you have, we can make a recommendation for a bed cover, skirt, and pillow combination. |

measuring guidelines |
How do I measure for a duvet cover?
First, try the duvet (just a fancy name for a comforter) on the bed to see if it comes down long enough on the sides to easily cover where the mattress meets the bed skirt. You want it to come below the mattress at least two to three inches or more. The idea is for your child to eventually be able to make up the bed without having to do a lot of adjusting. Once you have determined that the duvet fits, gently smooth it out on the floor, and measure the width and length. Do not go by the measurements on the tag because they are usually incorrect.
I have to buy a new duvet, how do I know what size to get?
You want to buy one that completely covers the top and sides and end of your mattress and then some. You can always pull it down a little at the foot of the bed if it’s a little short, but you can’t fake it when it isn't long enough on the sides. If you have a really thick mattress (especially queen-size), you will probably have to get an oversized duvet. If you have a bunk or loft bed, try to find the smallest measurement in your size range so there isn't so much to tuck into the sides of the bed. We recommend down-alternative duvets for children because they are so easy to wash. Linensource.com has a good selection of reasonably priced standard-size and oversized duvet stuffers.
How do I measure for a twin, full, or queen-size skirt?
Measure from the top of the box spring to whatever length you desire. If your skirt is tailored, come up off the floor about half an inch because a straight skirt does not look good dragging the ground. Also, a gathered skirt that “puddles” seems to require constant maintenance to look good. It tends to look messy if it is not styled just so. This could be an issue if you expect your child to make the bed.
How do I measure for a skirt if the mattress rests on wood slats or a bunkie board?
Consider not using a skirt, especially if you have a good-looking bed with attractive wood. However, if you really want one, find a seamstress that will come to your house to measure and give you the best advice about how a skirt could be made that would work for your particular bed. Usually, the skirt will have to be made on bands and attached directly to the wood just under the slats. We can sell you the fabric, but we no longer make skirts on bands. |

window treatments |
How many valances should I get if I have a large window?
Our Tab Valance is 54". It looks fine stretched flat or gathered. One valance is sufficient for a window up to 54" wide. Get two if your window is larger and just put them on the same rod. Balloon valances need to be gathered to look their best. One balloon valance looks fine on a window up to about 54" wide. Get two if your window is larger and just push them together on the same rod. If you still have questions, call 251.929.1530 and we'll help you figure out how many to get!
Do you make curtain panels?
No, because of all the variables, we've decided not to make curtain panels. We are more than happy to suggest fabric combinations and sell fabrics by the yard if you plan on having them made elsewhere. |

cleaning instructions |
What's the best way to clean my Javis Davis bedding?
Just like clothing you would buy from a nice boutique, custom bedding requires a bit more care to keep it looking good. If you click on your fabric in the fabric collections, you will see the specs. If the cleaning instructions say dry clean, you should take that advice–particularly for large items like skirts, duvets, valances, and pillow shams. However, if you have used one of these fabrics on a crib bumper or decorative pillow, you can wash it in cold water, using a mild detergent and gentle cycle. Do not overstuff the washer or dryer. It is very important when drying not to use a high heat–just tumble dry for best results.
If the fabric you used says machine wash, then follow the instructions above for machine washing and drying. (Cold water, mild detergent, gentle cycle, low heat drying) Remember, you will probably have to do some touch-up ironing on the cotton fabrics which can be time consuming when dealing with duvets and skirts. If you smooth out your crib sheet as soon as it's dry, you can usually avoid ironing. Never press the body of your bumper, as that might melt the filler, but you can lightly steam it. No bumper is ever quite the same once it has been washed, but if you follow the instructions, yours should do just fine.
Coverlets and pillows made from our super soft 100% polyester fabrics are incredibly practical. They machine wash and dry just beautifully and never have to be ironed. |
